Dead sedum flowers, c. 24” high, in front of my house.
I have had to surrender to the inevitable. I compost. I generally have a higher volume of compostable waste than of nonrecyclable trash. To get to the compost bin outside, I walk out on my deck, down some stairs, and then about 20 feet to the bin. I can also get to the bin by walking down a hill from my driveway.
After the big storm last week, when I’d shoveled my driveway, I shoveled off the steps and tromped down a path to the compost bin. And then, on Tuesday, there was the ice storm. There’s snow on the deck, with a heavy crust of ice over it. And, while the steps are still clear, the entire path that I tromped out on Saturday is covered over with a heavy, shiny layer of ice.
And the kitchen compost pail was full. And tomorrow is trash day. So, I held my nose (metaphorically only) and emptied the compost bin into the trash bag, and put out the trash.
- Made crock-pot pot roast. I put everything in this morning, and when I got home from work, there was pot roast.
- Vacuumed the high-traffic areas in the living room, bedroom, hall, and bathroom. I love my Dyson.
- Washed and blocked the first pair of gift socks, after weaving in the ends.
- Did a few more rows on my shawlette. This is a big deal, since I’m almost up to 300 stitches/row.
- Watched one and 1/3 hockey games.
I still have to wash some of the dishes.
…but I gather today’s topic is what’s on the needles:
1. Waiting for ends to be woven in:
- Socks for a gift
- Herbivore shawlette
2. Actually on the needles
- Lacunae socks for another gift
- Dane shawl for me
- Sock yarn blanket (since forever)
- A shaped summer top that I started 20 lbs ago that might be too big on me now
- Wristlets and fingerless mitts started as Stitches East class projects
The first soup of the winter…so far, chicken carcass, rosemary, onion, celery, carrot, and, eventually, barley and navy beans.
I have
- Brought some laundry upstairs (but not yet put it away)
- Gone to JoAnns for some polarplus fabric to make a cover for my wall AC
- Made a farm-stand run
- Steamed the spinach from said farm-stand run to freeze for later use
- Pulled off the outer leaves from the cauliflower (for Thanksgiving) and the cabbage
- Taken out the compost (lots of veggie waste from the above)
- Made arrangements for a Freecycler to pick up two blankets I no longer need
I have also killed a lot of time farting around on Facebook and Rav and obsessively refreshing my Google reader.
The sweater wot I made. First I spun the yarnz. Then I plied the yarnz. Then I knit the sweater. And it fits!
I wonder if I have enough vinegar to deal with all this dye shedding. (I thought I’d rinsed the individual skeins enough after spinning and plying, but apparently not…)
—Two loads of laundry washed and hanging on racks to dry
—One previous load of laundry taken up from racks, folded, and put away
—Shopping at farmstand (veggies for the week: spinach, lettuce, zucchini, and cauliflower)
—Grafted the underarms and wove in most of the ends on the sweater I just finished knitting.
It’s not much, but, all in all, a net plus.
